You can download this notice as a PDF document (65KB) The Health and Safety Authority requests comments and observations on the draft “Fishing Safety Statement Code of Practice for Fishing Boats with Three or Less Crew Members and Overall Length of 15 Metres or Less” prior to submission of the proposed Code of Practice to the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (Mr Richard Bruton) for his consideration and consent to its publication by the Authority in accordance with section 60 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (No. 10 of 2005). The overall objective of the Code of Practice is to provide basic guidelines and risk assessments that will facilitate the safe and efficient operation of small fishing boats and provide all involved with the necessary information to comply with best practice. The Code of Practice aims to cover all aspects of the operations of small fishing boats. Some of the sections such as legislation, general working, health and vulnerable workers will be common to all boats. In addition, the code of practice has sections dedicated to specific types of fishing operations such as potting, trawling, dredging etc. The draft “Fishing Safety Statement Code of Practice” is comprised of two documents, a "Guidance" document and a "Risk Assessment" document.
